Oftentimes the cause of a mental illness is unknown. As doctors continue to research this field they learn more about what causes it.
It could be neurotransmitters inside the brain that are misfiring. Parts of the brain that have been damaged may also be a contributing factor to mental illness. Infections have been linked to mental illness in both adults and children.
A large part of the mystery may be linked to genetics. Often mental illness is found to be carried down from generation to generation. 2nd Corinthians 12:10 says “For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong”. Do not lose faith when battling a mental illness. The effects of pain and suffering will be removed when you are given a new body with Christ one day in heaven.
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
